We recently serviced a Samsung refrigerator on Waugh Street in Alliance, OH that wasn’t cooling properly in either compartment. The customer reported the upper half of the freezer was warm while the lower portion stayed cold. Our diagnosis revealed a faulty evaporator fan motor with insufficient voltage output from the control board.
The Problem
The customer called because their refrigerator wasn’t cooling well in either compartment. They noticed the upper half of the freezer was warm while the lower portion remained cold, creating uneven temperature zones that prevented proper food preservation.
Diagnosis
Testing revealed only 2.5 V DC from the control board on the fan circuit. Per our diagnostics, this indicated a faulty evaporator fan motor that wasn’t receiving adequate power to operate properly, causing the uneven cooling pattern throughout both compartments.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: DA31-00342A — Evap fan motor, DA94-06781R — Control board
- Work performed: Replaced fan motor and replaced control board under warranty
- Result: Customer to advise on operation following repair completion
Is It Worth Repairing?
Samsung refrigerators in the RS27T series are generally reliable units worth repairing when major components like the evaporator fan or control board fail. These models typically provide good service life, and replacing core cooling system components usually restores full functionality for years to come.
Maintenance Tips for Samsung Refrigerators
- Keep condenser coils clean — Samsung models with bottom-mounted coils need quarterly cleaning
- Replace water filters every 6 months to maintain optimal ice maker and dispenser performance
- Check door seals regularly — Samsung’s dual-door design relies on proper gasket sealing
