A Samsung washer at a home on West Main Street in Malvern wasn’t putting water in and wouldn’t finish cycles. What looked like a water valve problem turned out to be something much simpler — improper drain hose installation causing a siphon effect.
The Problem
The customer reported their wash machine wasn’t putting water in and would not finish the cycles. This Samsung front-load washer was acting sporadically — sometimes it would fill with water normally, other times it wouldn’t fill at all.
Diagnosis
The washer was sporadic, filled on some cycles not on others. We checked valves and screens first, which is standard procedure for fill issues. When we pulled the drain hose out of the wall drain, the washer started working properly. The problem was the drain hose placement was possibly causing water to siphon back into the washer.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: No parts needed
- Work performed: Repositioned drain hose out of standing water in wall drain
- Result: Washer began filling and completing cycles normally
Is It Worth Repairing?
Samsung washers from this era are generally reliable machines when properly installed. Since this repair required no parts and only a drain hose adjustment, it’s definitely worth fixing. Most Samsung washers can run 10-15 years with proper maintenance and installation.
Maintenance Tips for Samsung Washers
- Keep the drain hose elevated above any standing water in the drain pipe to prevent siphoning
- Clean the door seal regularly on front-load Samsung models to prevent mold buildup
- Run a cleaning cycle monthly using Samsung’s recommended washer cleaner or white vinegar
